Useful advices - Interior textiles

The proper choice of home textile, curtains and blinds is of critical importance for creating cozy and stylish home. It is highly recommended that you plan in advance textile in the earliest stages of the interior project, together with the choice of wall finishes, tiling and upholstery.

You'd better make sure that the material of the curtains reflects the other materials in the space, textile colours match well with the primary colours of the furniture/accessories pieces as well as that thickness of the textile suits the overall vibe of the room decoration. When it is about colours, bear in mind that by choosing proper curtains, you can add depth to the space or alternatively make the room more casual and relaxed.

When choosing your textile for curtains and/or blinds, you should take into consideration:

The type and orientation of the space, these both are very important. We have to know what will be the main purpose of the curtains. From purely functional point of view, curtains can be divided to decorative and/or dimming, combination of both can also be achieved. When choosing the textile, we strongly recommend combination of thin curtains and thick drapery. This is optimal solution as far as it will both dim the space and be furniture and wood floor friendly in days with intense sunshine. For bedrooms, we recommend the thick drapery to be blackout /blackout textile has layer that blocks up to 99% of the sunlight/. When selecting textile for blinds, density and composition of fabric is also of crucial importance. Our experience favours selection of thicker fabrics which would suit both decorative and sunlight protection purposes.

If you are natural materials lover, it is good to remember that silk and cotton, if used on their own, would very likely fade away and even burn out in time. If that is the case, usage of bottom layer of polyester or trevira is highly recommended. In this way, it is also possible to emulate blackout effect.

Curtains and Drapery

Fabrics come in different widths. What is important to take into account is that for height of the curtain, the distance between the floor and the rod should be taken. For width, calculation goes all the length of the rod plus the frill. If the room has a standard height of 260-280 cm. then fabric of about 300 cm width would be the most appropriate option. The width of the fabrics then becomes height and we calculate the size of the rod plus the frill.

If, however, we choose a textile having width of about 140-160 cm., then we use the width to the length of the rod and we order linear meters fabric for the height. In latter scenario, we always need more linear meters fabric and the resulting curtains are hung on separate pieces, which might be or might be not stitched together.

Soft-Shade Curtains

The soft-shade curtains are highly functional and universal. In order to calculate the necessary quantity of fabric, we first need to know if the mechanism will be on the window frame, on the wall or on the ceiling. These curtains are very well suited for rooms where standard curtains can not be possibly fitted.

Essential part of the modern design concepts, the soft-shade curtains are sleek and classy when being risen on gentle ruffles, creating a refined horizontal pleated effect. By means of soft-shade curtains one can easily regulate light, depending on the type and orientation of the room. Thus, these curtains will cover the windows up to the point needed for a specific purpose.

Panel Curtains Systems

The panel curtains system is being applied when there are big windows (French windows) or long shopping windows . All-purpose and practical, they serve various purposes – from decorating of windows to separation of rooms. Panel systems allow combination of different materials – from thicker and dimming to lighter and airy ones.

The panels of the blinds can be of varying sizes, to customize to the project. Depending on the length that needs to be covered (and the width of the fabric we selected), the number and sizes of the panels are being determined where the minimal overlapping is at least 5 cm, in order to limit penetration of sunlight between them. Rail mechanism is very discreet and provides good opportunities for a wide range of configurations.
